San Francisco Cable Car Museum

San Francisco, California

Postcard 1162

Greetings from City by the bay! San Francisco is famous for its cable cars. At the intersection of a couple of the cable car lines, you'll find the wonderful & free cable car museum. Cables run below ground throughout all of San Francisco, always moving at 9mph. At this museum (in this picture) you can see the big wheels that power those cables. Definitely worth a visit on your next trip to San Francisco. Jason

Hiking Hallasan in the Hawaii of Korea

Jeju Island, South Korea

Postcard 1091

Annyeong-haseyo (hello in Korean), Hello from Jeju Island in South Korea. Jeju is South Korea's largest island and is often referred to as the Hawaii of South Korea because it's the go-to place for Korean honeymoons. The island is dominated by Hallasan (Halla Mountain), the largest mountain in South Korea. A great way to spend the day in Jeju is hiking the mountain. It's a full day's hike, but it's a great one. This is a picture of the last quarter of the hike. Jason

Joseph Strauss & his Golden Gate Bridge

San Francisco, California

Postcard 1017

Greetings from San Francisco, It's rare to have a fog free day in San Francisco, but I got lucky on this day. On the San Francisco side of the Golden Gate Bridge you can find this statue of the bridge's chief engineer and his story of overcoming hardships to build it. One of the most interesting parts of the story was his concern over the safety of the bridge builders. To keep his workers safe he insisted on installing a net beneath the construction of the bridge. The net ended up saving 19 lives. Jason

Hawaii’s Clever Bus Name

Oahu, Hawaii

Postcard 968

Aloha! As an ex-corporate Marketing guy, I couldn’t help but appreciate the clever name that Hawaii had come up with to name its bus system, “TheBus”. It’s simple and speaks to exactly what it is, I love it. I would have also loved to have been in the meeting where they decided on the name of their bus system. It would have been very funny to hear people debating and then deciding on this name. Jason

Baby Alligator Drink in Vietnam

Hue, Vietnam

Postcard 548

Greetings from Vietnam, I wish I could tell you the purpose of these jugs, but unfortunately I haven't a clue. I also wish I could tell you that I had the guts to try this drink. Alas, all I ended up with was this picture. It's my guess that this is somehow medicinal. All it looks like to me though is a baby alligator drink. Jason
